Tampa, FL Sewer Gas Smell Diagnosis and Sink Drain Repair
In early July 2025, Ultimate Plumbing Solutions was dispatched to a residence in Tampa, FL due to a strong sewer gas odor throughout the downstairs area. The homeowner also noted a master bathroom sink that was barely draining. Our licensed plumber arrived on site and performed a comprehensive inspection of the home’s drainage and venting system to isolate and correct the source of the smell and drainage issue.

Trap Seal & Odor Check
Here, I’m inspecting the P-trap and under-sink connections. Sewer gas odors can result when a trap dries out or leaks, breaking the seal that blocks gasses from rising. I verified the integrity of all under-vanity connections and checked for proper trap seal levels.

Drain Line Evaluation
This photo shows my inspection of the slow-draining bathroom sink. Using a combination of hand augers and visual inspection, I located a partial clog just past the trap. Blocked drain lines are a frequent cause of sewer odors and poor drainage, especially in older homes.

Problem Resolved
After sealing the trap, flushing the lines, and verifying vent pipe function, the odor was completely eliminated. The bathroom sink now drains freely. A thorough plumbing repair like this ensures your home remains safe, fresh, and functional.
