Tub Waste and Overflow Replacement in Tampa, FL
We were called to a home in Tampa, Florida because of a persistent ceiling leak appearing below an upstairs bathtub. When water damage is visible beneath a bathroom, the issue often relates to the tub waste and overflow assembly or bathtub drain connections allowing water to escape behind the wall.
To properly diagnose the issue, we accessed the plumbing from the adjacent closet. As we cut into the drywall using a drywall saw, it began to crumble due to previous repairs in that same area, making it impossible to install a clean future access panel. Still, we were able to gain full access to the bathtub’s drain components.
Once the plumbing was visible, we inspected the existing tub waste and overflow system and found that the assembly was worn out and failing. A deteriorated overflow gasket or loose waste shoe can easily allow water to run behind the wall whenever the tub is filled or the shower is used. Using professional plumbing tools, we removed the old components to allow for an upgraded, watertight solution.
We installed a brand-new tub waste and overflow kit, ensuring all slip-joint connections were tightened securely and that everything was properly aligned with the PVC drain and P-trap. After filling the tub and testing the overflow, no leaks were detected. Completed in November 2025, this repair restored proper bathtub drainage and prevented further hidden water damage.

Inspecting the Bathtub Area
We start by inspecting the bathtub and surrounding walls to confirm where the tub drain leak is originating. Stains, loose caulking, and overflow issues guide us to the faulty waste and overflow components.

Accessing the Plumbing Behind the Tub
We cut an opening in the closet wall behind the bathtub to access the drain, overflow, and PVC piping for removal and replacement of the failing parts.

Removing the Old Tub Waste and Overflow
We removed the worn tub waste and overflow assembly, which was no longer providing a proper seal. This allows us to upgrade the system with leak-resistant materials.

New Tub Waste and Overflow Installed
We installed a new waste and overflow kit and thoroughly tested the bathtub drain system to confirm no leaks remain behind the wall.
