Water Heater Supply Line & Hammer Arrestor Installation — Holiday, FL (Completed This Week)
During this service call, the water heater in the garage showed signs of rusting at the connections. I replaced the hot side galvanized nipple and both water heater supply lines due to corrosion and the risk of rupture. Rusted fittings and lines can quickly lead to leaks and costly water damage if left untreated.
In addition, the homeowner reported loud banging in the pipes whenever the washing machine cycled. To fix this, I provided and installed hammer arrestors on both the hot and cold supply lines feeding the washer. These devices absorb the shock when valves close suddenly, protecting the plumbing system from water hammer and reducing stress on joints and fittings.
Tools and materials included: pipe wrench, adjustable wrench, PTFE tape, replacement flexible supply lines, hammer arrestors, and galvanized fitting removal tools. With these upgrades, the water heater is now safe, and the home’s supply lines are protected against pressure surges and noise.
This type of plumbing repair not only prevents leaks but also improves system longevity. If you hear banging pipes, notice rust around your water heater supply lines, or have older galvanized fittings, it’s time to schedule a professional plumbing inspection and repair.

Supply Line Replacement
Here I removed the rusted galvanized nipple and replaced both water heater supply lines with new flexible connectors. This upgrade prevents leaks, improves water flow, and reduces the chance of rupture in the garage.
- Tools: pipe wrench, PTFE tape, replacement connectors
- Focus: rust removal, leak prevention, safe water supply

Galvanized Nipple Replacement
This image shows the inspection of the galvanized nipple on the hot side of the water heater. Over time, galvanized fittings corrode and restrict water flow. Replacing these components is critical for extending the life of the system.
- Tools: adjustable wrench, thread sealant, inspection light
- Focus: corrosion removal, improved flow, reliable connection

Hammer Arrestor Installation
Here I added hammer arrestors to the hot and cold washing machine supply lines. These devices cushion the shock of fast-closing valves, eliminating banging pipes and protecting the home’s plumbing system from water hammer damage.
- Tools: channel locks, PTFE tape, arrestor fittings
- Focus: noise reduction, water hammer prevention, system protection
